There are several ways to transfer your money to your Belize bank account. It can be done via check or wire transfer.  You can bring in US 10,000 a year physical cash as well. If you bring in more than $10,000 in physical cash a year, you can't bank it. This means that, for example, at Caye Bank, we only accept $10,000 in physical cash per year, per client. You can, however, transfer an unlimited amount of cash via wire to your account in Belize and deposit checks up to $50,000 per check.
 
Wire transfers can be very simple, and you can transfer as much as you like. It usually takes about 1 - 3 days to send the wire and for the money to be received. Every bank charges a different amount.
 
There are fees involved in banking internationally that people don’t expect. We have a monthly fee of $12 and we have a wire transfer fee of $80 to the States and $100 anywhere else per wire going out. If you are wiring money in, the charge is $10.

As an example, if you want to transfer funds from your Canadian bank account to your Belizean bank account, you have to contact you home branch and tell them that you want to initiate a wire transfer. You have to provide the routing information and swift codes and tell them the amount. It is preferable to make a transaction that is only up to US $5,000 because anything over that amount will require more paperwork. The bank would then start the wire to wherever you are sending it and move the funds to their intermediary bank. Because the funds land in Belize in Belizean dollars, they will do a foreign transaction to switch the currency so that the funds will arrive at the currency of your account.
 
The CA $4,500 that I send becomes just shy of BZ $9,000 less the wire transfer fee that the initiating bank took. It could take four to five working days to complete the transaction. There is a 2:1 fixed exchange rate between the US dollar and the Belizean dollar, which is permanent. US dollars are widely accepted in Belize so you can use them here.
