How much does it cost to go to the movies in Belize?

Cell phones in Belize are very cheap. There are no payment plans in Belize; you will either have a postpaid phone or a pre-paid phone. The more you talk the more you are going to spend, but it is still quite cheap. You can have your brand new IPhone 5s, add a BTL chip or a smart number and you have service in almost the entire country, with calls for BZ $0.25 (12 ½ US cents) per minute.

You will not find any movie theaters in Ambergris Caye, the island where I live in Belize. We do not need movie theaters on this island because we have such good TV. The whole country of Belize has all the brand new movies not only showing on television but you can get them on DVDs and watch them at home for US $2.50. There is no movie theater in Corozal and I am not aware of any theater in Belize.
But every town, state and district that I’ve been to in Belize have movie vendors that sell the latest movies on DVD, even those movies that are still in theaters, which cost about US $2.50 US. You can take them home and watch them, if that is what you choose to do.

What movies? We don’t movie theaters in Belize. If you need to leave for an evening out or a nice dinner or go to movies in Belize, you can go to Chetumal, which is just over the border in Mexico. Where I am located, which is in the north of Belize, I am 14 miles from Chetumal. In Chetumal, they have a Cineplex. Most newly released movies are released in English with Spanish subtitles.
...What movies? We don’t movie theaters in Belize. If you need to leave for an evening out or a nice dinner or go to movies in Belize, you can go to Chetumal, which is just over the border in Mexico. Where I am located, which is in the north of Belize, I am 14 miles from Chetumal. In Chetumal, they have a Cineplex. Most newly released movies are released in English with Spanish subtitles.
In Chetumal you can have dinner at a lovely ocean-side restaurant, go to the Cineplex and come home and probably spend less than $40. A movie theater ticket costs about US $4 or $5 and there is an Applebee’s right across the street from the Cineplex. The Applebee’s in Chetumal costs much less than it would cost you in the US and you can have a nice meal. You know Applebee’s has got great burgers. I can have a lovely dinner including dessert at the Applebee’s in Chetumal for about US $12 per person. So if you add that up, the $12 and $12 is $24 plus $9 for the movie, you would spend about $33 for the whole evening.
If you were in other parts of Belize, you wouldn’t be able to do that. There are no movie theaters for instance in Placencia, Hopkins, Ambergris Caye (which is San Pedro), and San Ignacio, which is in the Cayo District. If you want to go to the movies like you would in the US, you have to live in northern Belize around Corozal, which is where I live, and you could just drive over to Chetumal and have an American style evening for less than half the price it would cost you in the US.
The other nice thing about being in Corozol is that there is an area designated as the free zone, which has gambling casinos. They are very much like the gambling casinos run by the indigenous tribes in the States. You could go up there and play Texas Hold’em Poker, Slots, Baccarat, and Black Jack. There are nice restaurants located in the free zone, but relative to Belize, having an evening there is singular to the Corozal District.
