How much does clothing cost in Belize?
Apolo Caliz
Clothing in Belize can be cheap, depending on where you buy. If you like living a Belizean style, clothing is very cheap, either making your own cloths or looking for the “Baraterias” where you can get a lot of shopping done for you money rather than at a boutique. At a Barateria you can get a new jeans for about US $12.50, whereas at a boutique you would pay $40 for new jeans.

Clothing tends to be pretty expensive in Belize because they don’t have a big textile industry. Belize lost their manufacturing to some of the poor surrounding countries that have a larger population like Guatemala or Honduras. Manufacturing in Belize was gutted about ten years ago. All the clothing that they have now in Belize is generally handmade, be it tapestry or a dyed sarong.

If you are buying store-bought clothes, you will have to buy imported clothes. They print t-shirts locally, but when they buy the actual t-shirts without the printing, I would expect that they import them from China. Food and clothing in Belize is not cheap.
If you like rum, you are going to be able to enjoy alcohol at a reduced price because rum drinks are relatively inexpensive. Sugarcane is one of Belize’s crops (sugarcane plant, pictured. If you like vodka or red wine, you pay so much more than what you would pay back in the States because these items are imported and the duty tax is high.

There are two schools of thought regarding the pricing of clothes in Belize. I have found some clothing to be somewhat expensive in some of the boutiques and I've been to some of the kiosks and purchased clothes there. They tend to be of lesser quality, and don't last very long.
If you are always wanting to change your wardrobe then the clothes at the kiosks are the way to go. There are quite a few people who sell clothes via Facebook and prices...

There are seamstresses all over Belize and you can purchase clothes of the various cultures which tend to be of higher quality and also a bit higher priced. So like other places pricing is all over the place for clothes.
