Bocas del Toro Panana lake – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingThere are several rivers, waterfalls, and lakes in Bocas Del Toro, especially on the bigger islands and on the mainland. You can find both small and large rivers here. You will find waterfalls and lakes, too. I have a property for sale that has a lake on it. It is about 28 acres and surrounded by sea, but if you walk up for about ten minutes, there is a lake and the lake has caimans (wild alligators) in it. The owner calls it "Marilago", which means "sea and lake." There are no structures over there. The owner does have a plan that he made for houses and docks that he never implemented and you could either use his plan, which he would include with the purchase, or you can make your own dream for that. The lake is not very big; you could see across it. You could, however, swim across it if you wanted to swim with the caimans!

There are rivers everywhere in Bocas. In places where there is a larger river, people do drill wells and make rainwater catchers. If you want to see lakes and waterfalls, you can absolutely go to Bastimentos. I am sure Cristobal and the mainland have lakes and waterfalls, too.

The waterfalls in Bocas are pretty tall, but I haven’t seen any that are very large like the Niagara falls. Some are only waterfalls during the rainy season and others are there all year round. They are all beautiful.

CChanguinola river sending sediments into the Caribbean, Bocas del Toro, Panama – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingThere are rivers, lakes and waterfalls in and around Bocas del Toro. There are some lakes that captured water from the interior. For example, the island of Bastimentos has a little lake. Bocas del Toro has lakes on Isla Colon and there are some little lakes scattered around.

There is an abundance of waterfalls in and around the island or different islands. These are not big waterfalls, but maybe 10 feet high at the most. Most of the waterfalls are one foot high. When you get into mountains on the way to David, there are major waterfalls along the highway. There are rivers here, too: the Changuinola River and the Sixaola River. These are on the mainland, where we go fishing for tarpon and rabalo. Those are the major rivers that come out to the sea.

If you really want to go to a waterfall in David, you leave your boat in Bocas Town, get on the water taxi, go over to the mainland and from there, you would either take a bus to David, which leaves every 30 minutes, or you can hire a taxi, which is going to cost about US $125. We usually get three or four people together at one time so that’s around $30 a person. Taking a taxi is quicker than taking the bus, and you can stop and do whatever you want. You will see some of the most beautiful waterfalls as you go up and over the continental divide from Bocas in the Caribbean, to David, on the Pacific.  It’s awesome and you will see the most incredible waterfalls along the road.
