Rain in Panamá

Panamá is an excellent example of a rainforest paradise.  With primary and secondary forests, Panamá attracts visitors and science lovers from all over the world, offering one of the best biodiversity locations anywhere to any person seeking information on fauna and flora, unique ways of relaxing, writing, or simply being in contact with nature.

One of the most picturesque places on the Isthmus of Panamá is the town of El Valle ( located in Antón), about 2 and a half hours driving from the city of Panamá.  With thousands of birds species, plants, flowers, the golden frogs sanctuary, the fresh fruits and vegetables public market, hammocks, thermal pools, spas, modern and  local hotels and restaurants for all budgets, and all the charms that a town can offer, El Valle is a special place to relax and have a very happy family-oriented way of life, either permanently or just for a visit.

When we talk about rain in Panamá, including El Valle, it is very  difficult to define it.  The reason is that the rain in Panamá sometimes can be very heavy, but graciously, most of the times it goes away in minutes, or sometimes some hours, and you get the most beautiful rainbow after that.  On very few occasions, the rain can be a real blessing all day long, causing the temperature to drop several degrees and Panamanians to say "it´s cold", and run to find sweaters to wear.

Panamá only have two "seasons":  RAIN  and  NON RAINY.  Fortunately we do not have snow, earthquakes or any other major disasters; just some very occasional "shakings" here and there in mountain volcanic areas, but very rarely, and sometimes, in a rainy season, maybe some minor flooding, as Panamá has many rivers.  The occasional flooding is the reason why houses should never be built very close to a river.

Because Panamá is blessed with so much water,  it is green all year round, except from January through April, when there are breezes and heavy sunshine.  By the way, January through April is considered  "peak season" for visitors.

But one thing that makes Panamá unique is the weather, and having a  morning coffee by a terrace, with birds singing for you (for free) and that beautiful sunrise.....these things are priceless.

The best way to answer the first question ("How much rain does El Valle get?") is to say "a lot of rain", but it does keep things cool and green, and we like that.  The Dry Season starts the 1st of January and runs until late April or mid May.  The rains don't come all at once, but we do see the beginning of rainy season then.  Of course the rainy season goes until December 31.  Between October and December you will see the most amount of rain, but the temperatures drop some to make staying indoors a bit more comfortable.  Who doesn't like napping when it's raining?

The Dry Season is usually very windy but at first it brings a light mist with it so that the flowers get their much needed water.  The month of January is when all the flowers are in bloom here, and many of the trees have changed to colors like red or yellow.  The nights a very cool, but not cold, and the stars at night are incredible.  By the time April comes the grass has changed to brown, and leaves are blowing all over the place, much like you would expect Fall in the US to be like in the southern states.
