Edward Teach, also know as Captain Blackbeard – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingThe temperature in El Valle de Anton is between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius (77 to 86 Fahrenheit).

It tends to rain a little bit more during the rainy season so you’ll probably see rain that time of year almost every day. This is great for gardening because we have dark soil, there’s rain, and the temperature is not that hot compared to the beach areas. During the dry season, you will still get the odd rain maybe once a week or so but it is not a lot of rain. In the local beach areas such as Coronado, do not see rain for almost 5 months, so the weather is a little bit better in El Valle than Coronado.  Also, El Valle is 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the beach areas. That is a big difference so it takes the edge off.

The trade winds start to blow across Panama in January and they are finished by the end of February. The clouds all leave as the winds blow them out and the trade winds blow all over Panama, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

Back in the day, the pirates and sailors came during the time when the trade winds would start to blow. Captain Blackbeard used to port in Portobello, which is a town 2 and a half hours from Panama City in the Caribbean. He used to be there for about 8 months of the year and sail for about 4 months of the year when the trade winds were a here in Panama because that is the only time that his sails would take him here. In January, the winds are not awful but in February, they are very strong that it is almost not nice to be outside. By the end of February, they are gone. It is just something that you learn to live with.

Their local market is awesome; you can get everything from fresh fruit and flowers to woodcraft, hand made jewelry and much more. There zoo is also beautiful, and within walking distance from all the hotels and main road. No wonder why many have left the city and moved to El Valle!a view of the flower market in El Valle – Best Places In The World To Retire – International Living

At less than 9 degrees latitude above the equator, El Valle does not have a great variation in sunrise and sunset, less than 15 minutes during the year.   Our seasons are not "hot and cold" but rather "wet and dry".  The dry season generally runs from December through April, the rest of the year is wet.  Wet means that most days we get some rain, often quite heavy, and for periods up to a couple of hours.   Generally the mornings are dry and often sunny, the clouds move in around midday and the rain is in the afternoon, often stopping for the night.  The dry season has little rain, mostly sunny skies and frequently strong winds (up to 20 miles per hour).  These are generally katabic winds coming off of the mountains that lie between El Valle and the Caribbean coast (from the north).

Temperatures range from 19C to 32C (70F - 95F) during the dry season and the humidity is generally below 60%, sometimes as low as 45%, there are breezes most of the day and night.   During the wet season the temperature range is smaller, 22-30C (76-92F) but the humidity can reach 90% during the day and higher at night, and there are less breezes.  Most people do not install air conditioning, and if necessary find that floor mounted fan is sufficient for a comfortable night.
