El Valle de Anton reminds me of a secret garden that a child would imagine, hid away and mysterious.

The walls are slopes, the inner walls of a caldera, where only the select species of trees can spread their branches, which filter the sunlight for the most beautiful flowers and plants, that with their exotic and magnificent petals, sip the rains that fall nearest from the clouds, vitalized from the dissolved magma that has cooled into rich beds of blossoms and foliage.

You can definitely see flowers, plants, orchids, trees, and whole lot more in El Valle. Aside from seeing it grow here in the valley, El Valle's market  offers you the chance to buy much of the flora Panama has to offer on the weekends.  Many merchants come from all over the country to sell flora and artisan crafts there.  If your not interested in buying any flora or crafts, you can go to the Nispero Zoo where they display many plants, and some interesting animals. You should check out the tree frog exhibit before the poor creatures are extinct.  Come check it out.

Ditto on Ms.Renate Jope comments, do not miss Taboga or Boquete. Boquete has a major floral festival yearly and always has beautiful flowers.  Wine & hybiscus toast to all. – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingTobago has a Festa del Mar fest in January usually (next year will be their 3rd annual festival). For the daring, go to the jungles of Darien, but take a guide. Also remember the Smithsonian annual seminars at the National Headquarters in Ancon on Tuesdays at 4 pm.  The seminars include interesting presentations on floral and fauna of the Panamá by scientists for the STRI or education institutions from around the world who come as guest speakers.  A social hour follows the seminar where you can meet speakers, STRI scientists, students and local people in Panamá.

Yes, El Valle is famous for having great vegetation since the weather is nicer (a little fresh but not cold).  You will see a lot of plants and flowers that don't grow in Panama City.

Taboga, the beautiful flower island...El Valle, the crater town...Boquete next to Volcan Baru, amazing flowers everywhere, everything is really green, the soil real rich, there is lots of sunshine and the favorite "hibiscus" (papo in Spanish) and "bougainvillea" (veranera, they are the 'summer' flower) are everywhere. Trumpet trees, wild impatients... it's endless...

Many other beautiful flowers abound as well like roses, poinsettias, hydrangeas, and not to forget all the vegetables up in the Boquete, Volcan, Cerro Punta area. It's lush and alive, fertile and no lack of water.

It seems that as soon as you leave the Panamericana and turn inwards towards the mountains and get just a little elevation, flowers are everywhere, not to forget all the citrus, avocados, mangoes, cashew trees, papayas, bananas, etc. etc....

And then some coffee too..........
