Pedasi is 100% safe.  Many people don’t even lock their doors to their homes or their offices when they leave during the day.  There is essentially no crime here.  When anything at all happens in Pedasi, it is so unusual that it becomes big news.

Women are also not concerned about safety in Pedasi.

When I go to town on the weekends at night, I am completely unconcerned about crime.  I just don’t think about it.  Perhaps the reason is a combination of the city vibe not having gotten to Pedasi, and the kind of people who move here are people who really want to maintain the charm of Pedasi.  The locals and the expats are all committed to keeping everything as it is now in Pedasi.

Of course, there are petty crimes against property that can happen in Pedasi, just like anywhere else in the world, so, for example, if I left my cell phone in a visible place where someone could take it and it got stolen, I would blame myself.

The relationship that the expat community has with the locals is extremely good and the locals get a lot of benefit from the expats being in Pedasi.  Also, in Pedasi, you will not find extreme poverty.  The local people are humble, but they are not poor.  They are people who work in agriculture, on farms, cattle.  Nevertheless, I cannot say they are poor.

Panama City is much safer than Miami (where I have lived), and Pedasi is much safer than Panama City.

I always felt safe in Pedasi.  As a woman, I feel safe walking by myself in the center of town at 8 or 9 o’clock at night.  The most crime I’ve ever seen in Pedasi is pretty theft, which you get anywhere in the world.  I feel safer here in Pedasi than I ever felt in any other Central American country.

I feel safer in Pedasi than I felt when I lived in North Carolina.  Pedasi is a small town where everyone in town knows each other and everyone looks out for each other.  In addition, we have a neighborhood watch program.

I spent 5 days in Pedasi in September and was charmed by it's quaint plaza, the accessible beaches, the sense that night or day, it was a very safe place to be. The village is clearly growing and adding more shops, services and amenities--bakeries, restaurants, gifts, hostels, cafes. Outside of town the development is really booming. Housing developments, condos, gated communities--all of these will bring more and more people to this quiet area of Panama, and that will inevitably change some of its character. But it will be slow, and for now, rural, quiet, lovely and safe Pedasi is a charming place to visit or live.

The Pedasi Azuero Panama area is very safe. I have been going there both for business and pleasure for over 8 years now and have never felt unsafe. There is a great energy in Pedasi and Azuero and the people are so friendly!

The Pedasi, Azuero Peninsula area of Panama is a pretty safe, very countryside location with high values and traditions that go back to the time of the Spanish Conquistadores.

People there are very respectful and educated who will try to help.

Pedasí, like most of the towns in the countryside of Panama, used to be very safe. Nowadays, it continues to be very safe. However, everything changes with time; especially those places where tourism and the economy grow. Before, people could sleep out on the porch in a hammock with no worries. Now, they can still do it, but with precaution. At the beach, we can still go in the water and leave our stuff out on the sand; but, please, try to keep an eye on it. The reason behind this is that before tourism hit Pedasi, only Pedasieños lived here and they all knew each other and their habits. Now, we have people from all over the world, and so they come from different cultures, with different habits. In conclusion, enjoy Pedasi the most you can, but be prudent.

Is PedasiAzuero Peninsula Panama safe?

Is it a safe place to live?

While Panama does rate with a high level of safety in Latin or South America, it’s the small town charm and security of  Los Santos, Pedasi where we  feel the safest. In this area, crime is almost unheard of and friendly locals always watch out for each other.

You’ll also be happy to know that Panama has a diligent police force committed to protecting foreign investors and locals alike. This being said however, it’s always advisable to get to know your neighbors and help prevent crime and work together to enforce safety.

We think Panama is probably safer than many cities in the U.S. but with any new adventure there are risks involved, especially when traveling or moving to a new, unfamiliar place. Do your research and remember that you're a gringo in a foreign country.

Yes, Pedasi, Azuero Peninsula, Panama is very safe.  Where our resort is located, just outside of Pedasi, Playa Venao, it is still a place where you can leave your purse on the beach or your door open. We take price in our community-style daily life that makes you feel like part of a family.
