Cinta Costerea at night, Panama City, Panama – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingThe holidays of Casco Viejo are just like anywhere else in Panama. Panamanians in Casco Viejo don’t really observe any special holidays other than the national holidays that are celebrated in Panama. When those come, you pretty much find an influx of people who are out there to party or on the flip side, people just leave town and go to the beach and so everything will be kind of abandoned in the city.

While there’s no holiday for a patron saint in Casco Viejo, there are, however, many sort of events held all the time. For instance, a marathon might be scheduled in the neighborhood, so the streets are blocked off.

Casco Viejo is a party place all year round so when the carnival comes, you will have bars with people celebrating. As far as the actual carnival on the street, it will be down on the Cinta Costera area, not so much in Casco Viejo. (Cinta Costera, pictured.)

What are the holidays in the locality of Casco Viejo, in Panama City, Panama? humm... we can´t say we have any holidays of our own... but what we do have that kind of resembles it are the religious processions of the churches here. La Merced Church always does a nice one (I never know the day), and the main Cathedral one. I never take note of when, but I wished I did. The big saints are always the ones people relate to getting jobs, like Don Bosco. Here is a photo of one for La Merced, I think it was the one for "El Divino Niño".

Schools also do plenty of parades. There are around five elementary schools in Casco (public ones) and they always have something going on, like Earth Day or Values Day. So I would say that we enjoy all of the normal Panama Holidays...plus!

And speaking of Panama`s holidays, do take note that carnival parades are done in Casco Viejo. You`ll find that everyone leaves town for it, as it is just too much. If you do decide to stay, fill up your refrigerator and enjoy an amazing experience: Casco as a ghost town! it is actually quite cool. Go check out the parades, or stay at home and read a book.
