Enjoying the covered deck swing at Vision Properties, Placencia, Belize – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingThe average temperature in Placencia is 85 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. It gets a little hotter in the summer and a little cooler in the winter. In the coolest part of the year, the temperature would be around the low 70s. In summer, it could get up to 95 degrees.

The thing that’s nice about Placencia is because it’s a peninsula, the trade winds are blowing all the time. So even if it is very hot, it feels cooler because of the winds. I feel more comfortable in Placencia in the summer than in Fort Worth, where I came from, because Placencia is on the ocean and all that breeze that comes off from the ocean, which is very nice.

Placencia at sunset, looking towards the sea – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingI am not good with numbers and distance but what I can say about the weather in Placencia is that it is hot. In Placencia, I say we have three seasons.

We have a little winter where you would put on a t-shirt with long sleeves.

We have rainy season, but Placencia is very lucky because most of the time it only rains at night. It is very rare to get rain from 10 AM to 7 PM. This is not the same with the rest of the country.

Then there are months when it is extremely hot and humid, around May.

My favorite months are August and September because that is when it is very hot and the sea is flat and clear everyday. The beach in Placencia is always nicest from August and September. The water is crystal clear during these months.

weather in Placencia Belize – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingThe average temperature in Placencia year round is 80 degrees Fahrenheit, but right now is the best time of the year. The temperature now is around 70 degrees at night and around 80 to 85 degrees in the morning.

The cooler weather is from November to March, then it starts getting warmer around April to May. In the summer months, it progressively gets warmer. The temperature in June is around 90 degrees. It goes up until September, when it could reach about 95 degrees.

weather in Placencia Belize average temperature – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingWe live without air-conditioning here in Placencia and we are fine. We have done that since we moved here, but not everybody is OK without air-conditioning. Of course, newer visitors who come to Placencia really like the comforts of home, so a lot of places are air-conditioned. Most people build their houses and put air-conditioning in the bedrooms.

There is no central air-conditioning here in Placencia. Electricity is very expensive, so you do not keep the air conditioning on in your house the same way you do in the US, for example. Here in Placencia, if you are going to have dinner or if you are going to a beach bar, the breeze if just beautiful and it seems that it is not hot at all.

We have really immersed ourselves in the community here in Placencia Village, but there are some expats, especially in other places on Placencia Peninsula, who build bigger homes, which are more like what you would build in the States. Some have air-conditioning in their whole house and some just put air-conditioning in their bedrooms.

The dry season is from February to April.  During those months, we get the most visitors because everybody wants to be in the sunshine and wants to make sure that they are not coming in the rainy season. Most advertisements say that the rainy season is from June to November, but every year is different. We can get a great November now, but in the next year, it could be raining during the whole month of November. Well, it is Mother Nature, but for the most part, the weather in Placencia is always nice.

Comparing the temperature in Placencia to what it is like in Texas where I am from, the heat is more bearable here in Placencia, maybe because we are on the sea. The heat is bearable here during August and September, which are the hottest months of the year, but there is no way I could do it in Texas. The temperature here in Placencia is about the same as the temperature in Texas but it is just hot in Texas. They do not have this beautiful sea breeze, which lets you go out, sit and relax, and do whatever you want. In Texas, we go from our air-conditioned house to our air-conditioned cars, to air-conditioned Walmart, but it is not like that here in Placencia.
