You don’t actually need to step a foot in Belize to fall in love with the country (although we highly recommend it)!
The Fourth Baron of the Former Kingdom of Portugal, also known as Baron Bliss, was a wealthy yachtsman who sailed into Belize waters in 1926. Even though he never physically set foot on Belize soil, he bequeathed his fortune – about US$2 million – to the people of Belize. Belizeans celebrate him annually on March 9th – Baron Bliss Day. This holiday has recently been renamed National Heroes and Benefactors Day.
