Hiking in Nicaragua offers a wide range of geography to sample from. Volcanoes can be explored, both active and dormant. There is even a midnight, full moon hike to the top of an active crater once a month to view the lava in the vent and then watch a sunrise over the jungled mountains to the east. It is also possible to slide or snowboard down a volcanic cinder cone near Leon. Hiking in the jungle and cloud forest is a fun activity and seeing or at least hearing howler monkeys is an almost certain guarantee. Somoto Canyon offers the chance to float in a gorge carved by the Rio Coco and for the daring, jump from cliffs into the deep trenches in some spots.
Golf in Nicaragua is just catching on and the coast has 3 courses so far, Guacalito, Iguana, and Gran Pacifica. Managua has a country club, Nejapa, that is open for memberships. Club Teraza is a city club in Managua with tennis courts, racquetball, squash, a gymnasium, swimming pool, dance, yoga and fitness rooms, fine dining and causal pool fare.
