Panama has traditional dances. Our traditional music in Panama is called the Tipico. Tipico is very similar to the Colombian music because Panama was part of Colombia after we got our independence from Spain. If you ask a hundred Panamanians if they listen to our own traditional music, you would find that only the older population would say yes, while everyone else would say “No, we listen to hip hop and pop.”
A lot of the songs played on the radio in Panama are in English. Others are reggae, which is from the Caribbean. There’s Jamaican music, the Salsa from Cuba, and the Meringue from Dominican Republic. Panamanians love all types of music- rock, heavy metal, and many more. We have music for all tastes.
