Americans in San Francisco, a quarter of Panama City, Panama's, traditionally residential area are very well treated. It would be a mistake however to expect a different treatment based on your geographical location... In general, foreigners (especially those with an "American look") are highly regarded in the whole country. This is after all a country that would not exist without American intervention. Some consider that the US government fomented the secession of this former Colombian province to build the Canal, while others have a different view. Nonetheless, without the intervention of American warships, the insurrection would have been crushed. Americans not only built the Canal - which put Panama on the map, quite literally - but they also had the elegance to return it and left a long lasting cultural imprint. No need to remind you that Panama does not print paper money... you won't need to be scalped by those currency changers that operate in all the world's major airports. The US greenbacks in your wallet are all you need: Balboas come only in coin denominations (same size and weight as US cents, nickels, dimes and quarters).

People in general in Panama are very welcoming to its visitors, to everybody in general, and especially to the people from the United States, because we in the US have had a rather long relationship in history with Panama.

There is this bar / restaurant in the San Francisco area of Panama City near the hotels that is always full of international people, and there are no problems; everybody is welcoming.

Expats in San Francisco, Republic of Panamá.

Panamá is by tradition "crisol de razas" (crucible of races) since the colonial times...in the 15th century.  Valuable cultural and political contributions have been a tradition by all Latin American countries, where Panamá has played a prime role as the main path in "the American continent", where gold was taken from South America to Spain, as well as the main path for all seekers of gold, in the "gold area" in California at the beginning of the 19th century.

All this tradition has lasted through the years and to the present time, as the Republic of Panamá continues to be the host for many people who seek better lives, especially at their retirement years.

Every town and city in this country receives expats with love and open arms, as Panamanians are warm and kind, and have always welcomed visitors, not only through the Panamá Canal but in every road that can bring comfort to visitors.

So San Francisco, in the heart of Panamá City, is not the exception.  People from all parts of the American Continent, many coming from the United States and Canada, others from Colombia, Venezuela, some from Central America and many others from Europe, are treated like what they are: dear guests, who, if they comply with rules and laws in the country are welcome to enjoy a relaxing and beautiful life with locals, who at every moment try to accommodate visitors and giving them the comfort they´re looking for, especially if visitors try to understand and respect their traditions, customs and language.
