Chris Frochaux of Chris Frochaux - SERVMOR REALTY – Best Places In The World To Retire User Account
The overall cost of living in San Francisco, Panama City, Panama is fairly comparable to the cost of living in Panama City in general. with the exception of real estate prices. This area encompasses a large swath of the city and includes Punta Pacifica (formerly an airport) where buildings such as Trump Ocean Club are located, although Punta Pacifica has acquired distinct qualities and is now one of the most exclusive parts of town. I have selected San Francisco to establish my residence as it offers an excellent price-value ratio and is very centrally located, close to excellent restaurants, supermarkets, the renowned Multiplaza Mall, the best hospital in town (Punta Pacifica's Hospital, affiliated to Johns Hopkins) and also Parque Omar, the local version of Manhattan's Central Park, the perfect to walk, run, exercise or walk a dog.

Sheraton Hotel in San Francisco, Panama – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingThe cost of living in the San Francisco area of Panama City is about the same as in Coronado, Panama. Around US $3,500 per month should be fine and $2,500 for a single person would be okay. San Francisco is mainly composed of a lot of condos or apartments. There are very few houses there. There are also very few business towers there. It is almost all residential.

If you rent an apartment in San Francisco, it would be around $1,200 per month in a good area. San Francisco is not that big. It’s around 3 kilometers by 1 kilometer, so it’s tiny. It is about the same size as Marbella.

If you are going to buy in San Francisco, an apartment would be around $250,000 for a two-bedroom, three-bathroom unit. You also have all the restaurants that you can imagine in San Francisco. There is a huge variety.

There are also a lot of boutique hotels in San Francisco. Many of the people who work in Panama City live in San Francisco.

I had the privilege of living by Parque Omar, which is the large city park off of Via Porras, for a year and a half. Check out the view from my balcony. We were 18 floors up and could see all of Panama City and the ocean.

My apartment was 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms as well as a maids quarters. The rent was $1050, currently equivalent apartments in the building are renting for $1300 and up. The building included a pool, parking for two, gym and full time security.

My electric bill was usually in the range of $90-$120 depending on how much I did laundry and used the A/C. Water was usually under $15.

Shopping in the area was better than most parts of the city because we lived a short distance to Super 99 on Via Porras and PriceSmart on Via Brazil. The El Rey on Calle 50 was very expensive. For my vegetables I would by them from the vegetable stand inside Parque Omar.

The best part about this location was not having to have a car. I was always within walking distance of Via Porras or Via Espana. Also the MetroBus lines run on both of these streets.

San Francisco is a great part of Panama City. The cost of living in this area of Panama City is affordable compared to the areas close to the water.

The cost of living in the San Francisco area of Panama City, Panama, depends on how you want to live.  You can have an excellent and healthy level by purchasing local veggies, seasonal fruits, and not exceeding your social commitments.  Also affecting the cost is if you want all day/night air conditioning or want to enjoy the normal breeze using only ceiling fans.  If you are a resident retiree, you have favorable events almost every day with your senior discounts.  Gas, phone, internet and cable, car insurance, are very affordable.  It also depends on your choice of housing...if it´s paid, or if you have a mortgage.

For example:  if you have housing payment, maybe $4,000 will be a good amount for the cost of living.  No luxury, but nice.  If you do not have housing payments, maybe $2,000+ will be an amount to consider. But as in anything, you want to consider what is best for you.
