In Coronado, Panama, you can buy sportswear, casual clothes and shoes, and accessories.  For more high end and dressy clothing you probably need to go to the more inclusive malls in Panama City or the new department store mall halfway between Coronado and the city called West Mall, which is on the highway less than an hour from Coronado. This is really an asset to the area, with the city's developing suburbs.

Shopping is a big pastime in a place like Panama, where the Canal brings everything and the prices are moderate. You may find it’s too enticing and never even think about shopping elsewhere...and you will not have to run back to the USA or wherever to stock up.

Westland_Mall Panama – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingThere are not a lot of options for buying good clothes in Coronado, Panama. You can buy from the department store. They have everything from food to furniture, from tools to clothes, including swimwear. Another clothing store opened recently. There are three small clothing stores in Coronado, but there aren’t too many options.

To get better clothes, you have to either go to Penonome, which is about 20 minutes from Coronado, or go to the Westland Mall (pictured), which is located in Arraijan and more than an hour away, but before Panama City. To reach Penonome, you have to travel west from Coronado towards Panama City.  Westland Mall is an American style, huge mall where you will find any of the clothes you like.

Children in towels from Machetazo department store, Panama – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingYou can buy bathing suits and shorts in Coronado, if this is a version of good. If you want bathing suits and shorts and shirts to go along with that, you’re in good luck. If you want a suit and tie, sorry.

Coronado is a beach community, so you will see the brands you’re going to see in the US for beach-type clothing. So you can go right now to Machetazo (like a Wal-Mart) and buy Ocean Pacific, and several other well-known brands. You’re not getting anything that you wouldn’t want to buy in the US.  The Machetazo has three stories.  It even has an escalator that picks up your grocery cart and takes it sideways up the escalator.

I can also get a lot of clothes made in Colombia. I can go to the mall and get handmade leather shoes made in Colombia that are just fantastic.

We have a new mall opening that was designed in Canada. It will have what would equal to a Home Depot and Do It Center. It’s going to have a sports bar. It has a Payless shoe store. That’s here in Coronado and it’s opening as we speak.

If you want a megamall, we have the Westland Mall which is 40 minutes from here that has the Cinemark movie theatre with the reclining chairs and leather seats and a food court the size of a football field and every possible store in it and it would be equal in size to a US mall.

Cooperativa El Nido women's clothing store in Coronado, Panama – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingThere are several really nice dress shops in Coronado, Panama that opened in the last year. They are small boutiques with really nice, high-end clothing.

The prices of clothing in these boutiques are similar or close to the prices of items that you would find in clothing stores in the US. If you go to the local shopping, you will find bargains for clothing but the quality and the design will not be the same as those that you will find in the big high-end stores.

You could also go to the Westland Mall, which is about 30 minutes away from Coronado.  It has a Conways where you could get some middle to high-end clothes. It’s like Kohl’s in the US or a little bit more high end than Target. The prices for items in Westland Mall are a little less than the prices in the US by around 25%.

Chanel resort wear – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingYou can absolutely buy good clothes in Coronado, Panama. You can go to several different types of stores.

They have something that’s like a Super Target. You can buy groceries on the bottom, household goods and clothes on the top.

You can buy things online and have them delivered to your Mailboxes, Etc. account. Amazon is definitely our good friend. You can take the hour drive to Panama City and buy anything from a US $3 dress from a local store to a $3,000 dress at Chanel.

roof top bar with views of Panama City, Panama – Best Places In The World To Retire – International LivingThere is only one place in Coronado, Panama, where you can buy good clothes, but I do not recommend you go shopping here. El Machetazoh is a three-story department store here in Coronado. The clothes that you will get there are not very fashionable, but they are ones that you would get when you are in a hurry, for example, and you need to buy clothes quickly.

If you have more time and want to buy good clothes, you have to go to Panama City (less than two hours away), where there are several different US-style malls or you could go to Westland Mall in Chorrera, less than an hour away.

Coronado Mall is a great place to buy good clothes in Coronado; however, with not much choice!  For example, Machetazo is a stock department where you can find excellent clothes but the most of them are outdoors wear or beach wear... clothes related to activities for that area.  If your swimsuit is torn or you lost your sandals, Coronado Mall is the perfect place to buy a replacement because you need to buy one soon.  If you're planning a shopping day, I suggest to drive 60 kilometers (about 37 miles) through Carretera Panamericana to get to Westland Mall in Nuevo Arraijan. There you will find a huge variety of shops to suit all tastes and budgets.

Yes, you can buy good clothes in Coronado, Panama, but the selection is not going to be that big.

There is a department store called El Machetazo on the second floor that has a good selection of good stuff to save your day.  They have a little of everything, including brands like Nike and Reebok.

But if you really want to shop for clothes you have to drive to Panama City, about 50 miles away.
