About Me
My wife and I are expats from the U.S. living in Medellin Colombia. We left the states mostly for health reasons, as cold weather became a burden for both of us. We have three beautiful daughters, and three terrific grandkids. I'm a retired commercial pilot, and Mariah is a retired RN. I flew helicopters all over the world for forty years, and Mariah has specialized in Neonatal, Emergency, Cardiac and Family Nursing for 35 years.

Medellin, the city of eternal springtime, is a big city, with some of the typical big-city issues like noise, traffic, and occasionally poor air quality, but it's a wonderful place, with first world amenities. Medellin has first class medical/health care, world-class public transport, green and welcoming parks everywhere, too many fine restaurants to count, a great symphony orchestra, and a great airport with extensive service. It is also, for its size, the cleanest city we've ever seen. We love it here.

Travel is: “fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” So said Mark Twain in his 1869 travelogue titled 'Innocents Abroad.' So I'd say one thing I'm most proud of at becoming an expat is taking old Sam Clemens' advice and moving from the comfort, familiarit... Read More
