Study Released: How is Healthcare Abroad?

Oro Valley, Arizona, USA—May 13, 2016— Best Places In The World To Retire today released their third study on expats primarily in Panama, Belize and Nicaragua, “Expat Report: How is Healthcare Abroad” for free download.   Examples of findings include:
  • The quality of healthcare abroad is about the same as in the expats’ home country.
  • Expats find access to healthcare is slightly better abroad.
  • For each dollar they spent for healthcare in the US, 39.9% of American expats report paying less than 25 cents abroad.
  • Many expats don’t have any insurance at all.
  • Americans are more satisfied with healthcare abroad than are Canadians.
  • Which country (at 50.3% of respondents), had the most respondents who said they were “very satisfied” with their healthcare? Which county had the lowest?
  • Expats reported having a much healthier lifestyle abroad, which further reduced their healthcare needs, as well as costs.
Chuck Bolotin, Vice President of Business Development explained, “The study reports on many aspects of the healthcare question, from access, to quality, to cost.  How one feels about their healthcare can be a very personal question, and our study reveals how expats feel in many of these areas. Anyone reading this healthcare study will get a very good understanding for the type of healthcare they can expect abroad."

Alan Alexander, Chairman of the Best Places Advisor Board added, “We received close to universal praise for the format of our first two studies in the series, so we decided to keep the same format for this study on healthcare.  The format and content of this study is perfect for anyone doing research into the topic of the healthcare experiences of primarily American and Canadian expats.  Those benefiting from reading the study will include those considering moving abroad, as well as journalists looking for stories and businesspeople looking for marketing material."

"For example," Alexander continued, "for journalists, right after the cover, we have ‘Hot Tidbits for Journalists’, which provides the most interesting results and suggested storylines.  The study also provides infographics, comments by the expats themselves, expert analysis, and access to experts for journalists.  Within reason, our data department will even run a custom query for news organizations against our database and provide custom graphics.”

Bolotin commented on the breadth of the study by saying, "Just like our two other studies, this one asks follow up questions to get more than just a dry recitation of facts and figures, and also includes how expats feel about their situation, which, when considering healthcare, is a very important consideration."

Alexander said, " This healthcare study is really a ‘must read' for people considering moving overseas and those reporting or commenting on the phenomenon.  We're very proud and happy to offer it to the pubic."
